HIV and Women of Color
HIV/AIDS has disproportionately affected African Americans. That means that while only 13% of the US population is African American, 50% of all new HIV/AIDS cases are from the African American Population.*(2004)
HIV/AIDS threatens Women of Color in New York and the numbers continue to rise.
AIDS Rochester is dedicated to a world without HIV. Our focus is preventing HIV infection and keeping families affected by HIV healthy and stable. Women of color are one of our priority populations.
Mirroring some of the guidelines put forth by the National Minority AIDS Council, AIDS Rochester offers the following programs:
- Housing assistance to families in need of stable affordable housing.
- Increased Outreach and Prevention and Testing Efforts in highest risk communities.
- Operating the only Syringe Exchange program in Monroe County.
