Food Program Assistant
Main Office

15 Hours Per Week

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Food or customer service experience preferred. Requires the ability to relate to people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, races, sexual orientations and gender identities or expressions. Must be able to meet agency driving policy requirements for this position, including a valid NYS Driver License, a good driving record, access to a reliable vehicle and proof of required automobile insurance. Some flexibility with schedule required. Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks on a daily basis for long periods of time.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Weekly pick-up and delivery of VNS meals and groceries in an agency van.
  2. Monthly delivery of food cupboard items to rural offices in an agency van.
  3. Oversee proper sanitation, handling, preparation, storage and delivery of food products according to local health codes.
  4. Assist with all aspects of agency food programs as directed by supervisor, including set-up, clean-up, preparation and serving of on-site meals.
  5. Assist with the coordination and stocking of the agency Food Cupboard, including preparation for volunteers, distribution of food bags, pickup/loading/unloading of supplies, as well as the packing of food bags when needed.
  6. Responsible for maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the Food Cupboard on a daily basis.
  7. Deliver food to clients as directed.
  8. Responsible for reporting safety or repair issues to program supervisor.
  9. Report volunteer needs to the Director of Volunteer Services.
  10. Provide direction to volunteers as directed by supervisor.
  11. Demonstrate developing knowledge of HIV/AIDS and related issues.
  12. Drive assigned vehicles.
  13. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

SALARY: $10.46/hour

SCHEDULE: 3 days per week (Mon, Wed, Fri from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
