- 34% of LGBT adults surveyed smoke cigarettes, as compared to 24% of heterosexual adults.
Since the 1980’s, evidence shows that the tobacco industry has specifically targeted LGBT people via marketing and sponsoring LGBT events.
Smoking rates among LGBT youth are estimated to be considerably higher (38% to 59%) than those among adolescents in general (28% to 35%).
Quitting smoking has many health benefits including improved lung health, lowering blood pressure, and decreasing the risk of heart attack.
