Geared to Give Generates Support
Exercise is good for more than your body and mind—it can really benefit your community! On Saturday, March 10, over 80 spinners participated in hour-long spinning classes at the World Gym on East Avenue to raise money for AIDS Rochester. Committee co-chairs Tobie Olsan and Eke Aiono recruited local spinning instructors from the Jewish Community Center, World Gym, Penfield Athletic Club, and RAC for Women in Pittsford to lead the rigorous and fun classes.
ARI volunteer Melissa Cain came to register spinners at the event and then decided to participate as well. She said, “I don’t normally do spinning, so it was a little painful for me, but the class was still really fun. I would do it again!”
There were also some more experienced spinners at the event. The ARiders, the team that will be participating in the Empire State AIDS Ride August 12-18, also came together to raise funds and train.
The third annual Geared to Give event was certainly a success. $7,000 was raised by the riders, raffle, sales, and auction. The top fundraisers were Eric Robinson, who raised $904, and David Zona, who raised $520.
